So that students can be adequately prepared to do the kinds of writing required of them, English 101 and English 102 are prerequisites for all upper-division writing courses.
Students are also strongly advised to take Writing 200 (Writing for the Media) before taking other upper-division writing courses, as the specific writing skills students master in Writing 200 provide a strong foundation for the written work that is required in most of the other professional writing classes.
