Position Summary:

The Maintenance Mechanic 1 is expected to perform a variety of duties to help maintain a unit's physical plant and to provide the highest quality of service at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Normal carpentry, plumbing, and painting duties.
  2. Must be able to manipulate/use hand and power tools, use /read/interpret measuring and metering devices, read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications and operating instructions.
  3. May bend/cut conduit pipe and wire, drill holes in walls, floors and ceilings for connections, clear clogged drains and replace plumbing fixtures.
  4. Connect water supplies and drainage pipelines and work with a variety of pumps, motors and controls for equipment.
  5. In order to detect malfunctions and repair equipment, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 must be able to diagnose and dismantle equipment and install working parts.
  6. Must be able to read and complete work orders and may be required to supervise and/or train certain workers.
  7. Must use maintenance tools/equipment and be competent in the use of emergency warning equipment.
  8. May be expected to lift and move supplies, equipment and tools, operate a motor vehicle, wear protective clothing as required by the work environment or government regulations and operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, calculator, and monitor.
  9. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise others to complete an assigned task for the day.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. One to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: >
Must posses a valid State drivers license with no misdemeanors or convictions within last 5 years. May require a H.V.A.C. or Electrical license from the State of South Carolina.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements for this job could be lifting packages up to 100 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
