Position Summary: The HVAC Maintenance Apprentice is expected to perform a variety of duties to help maintain a unit's physical plant.
Essential Job Functions: The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Provide the highest quality of service at all times.
Must be able to manipulate/use hand and power tools, use /read/interpret measuring and metering devices.
May bend/cut conduit pipe and wire, drill holes in walls, floors and ceilings for connections, clear clogged drains and replace plumbing fixtures.
Connect water supplies and drainage pipelines and work with a variety of pumps, motors and controls for equipment.
In order to detect malfunctions and repair equipment, the HVAC Maintenance Apprentice will be trained to diagnose and dismantle equipment and install working parts.
Must be able to read and complete work orders.
Must use maintenance tools/equipment and be competent in the use of emergency warning equipment.
May be expected to lift and move supplies, equipment and tools, operate a motor vehicle, wear protective clothing as required by the work environment or government regulations and operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, calculator, monitor.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
one to three months’ related experience and/or training Ability to understand and perform oral and written instructions
Ability to maintain professionalism with students, faculty, staff and guests
Must have a valid SC Drivers License and ability to operate College vehicles

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must posses a valid State driver’s license with no misdemeanors or convictions within last 5 years.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
