The Department of Mathematics and Computing at Columbia College is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in computing at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 16, 2008. Columbia College is a liberal arts college and highly values the teacher/scholar model. Thus, candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, a potential to sustain a program of productive scholarship, and a desire to work in a liberal arts environment with emphasis on leadership development.
The department offers bachelor’s degrees (B. S. and B. A.) in Computer and Information Science (CIS) with concentrations in either Computer Science or Information Science. It also offers bachelor’s degrees in mathematics with an option for teacher certification. Some faculty members in the department teach both math and CIS.
The successful candidate for this position must have a Ph. D. in a computing discipline or a combination of a Ph. D in a related field (such as mathematics) and a master’s degree in a computing field. The candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses from the introductory to upper level courses in computing.
