HEAD SOCCER COACH / RECRUITING COORDINATOR


POSITION SUMMARY:

Administers all facets of a collegiate soccer program.  Coordinates student-athlete recruitment for the Department of Athletics.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Current CPR, AED and first aid certifications.
  3. Previous playing experience preferably on college level.
  4. At least two years successful coaching experience on the high school or college level preferred.
  5. Working knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations.
  6. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  7. Proficiency in word processing programs.
  8. Current South Carolina driver’s license.
  9.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Identifies and recruits qualified soccer student-athletes.
  2. Plans and implements daily practices in preparation for games.
  3. Provides direct supervision and proper technique instruction to student-athletes engaged in practice, games or activities directly related to sports participation.
  4. Schedules all home and away games.
  5. Sends contracts for all scheduled competitions.
  6. Drives team to and from competition sites.
  7. Manages team’s operating budget.
  8. Maintains inventory of all supplies and equipment affiliated with the soccer program and orders as needed.
  9. Implements a weight and conditioning program in conjunction with athletic trainer.
  10. Reports all unsafe playing conditions to director of athletics.
  11. Hires and supervises assistant coach.
  12. Maintains membership in a professional organization for soccer coaches.
  13. Displays professionalism while performing all duties and responsibilities associated with Columbia College Athletics.
  14. Abides by all NAIA and SSAC regulations including the Coaches Code and attends SSAC meetings.
  15. Assists in all facets of yearly athletic events including fundraising events and All-Sports Banquet.
  16. Administers one week-long soccer camp during June or July to benefit the soccer program.
  17. Serves as liaison between the athletic coaches and the Office of Admissions.
  18. Provides assistance to each head coach in his or her recruiting efforts.
  19. Determines eligibility for incoming freshmen based on academic information provided with the application.
  20. Prepares notification to send to institutions when contacted by students currently attending another institution.
  21. Responds to each prospective athlete who completes an online recruiting questionnaire to indicate we have received their information; ensures each prospect is included on recruiting list; forwards information to each coach for further follow-up. 
  22. Maintains a list of current prospective student-athletes and communicates changes to list weekly with Admissions, Financial Aid and the Director of Athletics.
  23. Ensures all prospective student-athletes are coded properly in Access database.
  24. Sends out information – letters, packets, etc. – to each prospective student-athlete each month.
  25. Coordinates with Admissions to schedule campus visits and tryouts for prospective student-athletes.
  26. Follows up with admissions counselors on prospective student-athletes identified by coaches to ensure they are moving efficiently through the admissions process.
  27. Provides admissions status reports to each head coach regarding his or her recruits.
  28. Provides guidance and assistance to all prospective student-athletes through the recruitment and admissions process including phone calls, e-mails, etc. to prospective student-athletes.
  29. Attends Admissions training sessions.
  30. Provides assistance to all coaches in using Access database for prospective student-athletes.
  31. Attends all Admissions Open House events including Scholar’s Day.

Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.
