The Columbia College Collegiate Sertoma Club is the student professional organization for speech-language pathology majors and others interested in communication disorders. The purpose of the Collegiate Sertoma group is to increase awareness of and provide service to individuals with communication disorders. The club meets at least once a month to discuss upcoming service projects and to plan social events. Some of the past service projects have included the following: Breast Cancer Walk for Life, Camp Sertoma, Special Olympics, Teddy Bear Donation to the Palmetto Richland Children?s Hospital, and Canned Food Drives. Local professionals are invited to speak at the monthly meetings on a variety of topics related to communication disorders.
Columbia College Sertoma Club members are given the opportunity to be involved with campus, community, state, and national organizations relating to the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. Fundraising, service, and social projects this year have included the following:
•Volunteering at the Richland Sertoma Club Mardi Gras event to raise money for Camp Sertoma, a summer camp for children with communication disorders
Jewelry, T-shirt and bake sales to raise money for SLP student scholarships
Volunteering at a local nursing home
Volunteering at the Special Olympics with CEC students
Volunteering at the SCSHA Fall Workshop and Spring Convention
Going out to dinner
