Music Clinics for High School Students

2012 Day of Strings Clinic

Dr. Randolph Love, Music Program Coordinator and Coordinator of Instrumental Activities, is pleased to announce that Columbia College will host a Day of Strings Clinic for high school students on February 25, 2012, from 9:00am – 4:00pm in the Spears Center for the Arts on the Columbia College campus. High school orchestra directors are encouraged to inform their strings students about this significant educational opportunity.

During the course of the day, strings students will work with the highly qualified woodwind faculty of Columbia College, Pamela Tellejohn Hayes, Adjunct Professor of Violin and Ashley Horvat, Adjunct Professor of Violin along with our special guest clinician, Damir Horvat, violin. Students attending the clinic will also have the opportunity to work with The Columbia College Chamber Ensemble (CCCE), directed by Dr. Randolph Love. The CCCE, now in its 33rd year, was founded by Dr. Love to familiarize students with the significant body of chamber music literature by the master composers from the Renaissance through today’s contemporary era. The students will also be treated to lunch provided by Columbia College and to a recital by Columbia College’s excellent professional music faculty. Clinic sessions will include topics such as “Scales and Shifting,” “Developing flexibility and an expressive vibrato,” “How to develop good tone quality,” and “Instrument care and maintainance.”

The participation fee for the clinic is $25.00 per student. The deadline for registration is February 23, 2012. Thank you for taking the time to inform your students about this excellent opportunity and for encouraging them to attend. We look forward to enriching their personal performing experiences as well as their contributions to your orchestra program through this clinic.
