| Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society is a nonprofit organization
devoted to the advancement of scholarship and to the recognition of
nontraditional students continuing their higher education. The Society
was established in 1945-46 to honor superior scholarship and leadership
in adult students. Today, with nearly 250 institutional chapters throughout
the United states, Alpha Sigma Lambda is the oldest and largest chapter-based
honor society for full- and part-time adult students. |

For the nontraditional student, Alpha Sigma
Lambda stands as an inspiration for continuing scholastic growth, a builder
of pride through recognition, and an invitation to associate with similarly
motivated students. The Society represents a prestigious opportunity
to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic
excellence, while facing competing interests of family, community and
work.
Membership in Alpha Sigma
Lambda is by invitation only. In January of each year, the officers of
the organization at Columbia College contact eligible students to apply
for membership based on the following criteria:
- Thirty graded semester
hours of course work earned at Columbia College.
- Ranked in the top 10% of
students enrolled in the Evening College, either full-time or part-time.
This ranking is based on the cumulative GPA at the end of the fall
semester.
- Upon completion of the
requirements for membership in ASL, new members are inducted at the
Evening College Recognition Ceremony that is held each April.
