ADEPT and Divergent Learning

ADEPT is South Carolina's system for assisting, developing, and evaluating professional teaching. Based on state expectations (i.e., ADEPT Performance Standards) that are aligned with nationally recognized teaching standards, the ADEPT system forms a seamless continuum for teachers throughout the entirety of their careers.

The following plan is used by ONE school district in South Carolina. If you choose to enroll in the M.Ed. in Divergent Learning to fulfill your ADEPT requirement, make sure it is approved by your district.

Goal: To enroll, complete, and effectively implement the learned strategies to meet the needs of the divergent learner. This is a multi-year research and development goal.

Duration of goal: Anticipated beginning date (school year): ____   Anticipated completion date (school year): _____ [The M.Ed. can be earned in three semesters of consecutive study. EX: fall, spring, summer OR summer, spring, fall]

Types of evidence required to verify annual progress/overall goal accomplishment:

  1. Enroll and attend the Divergent Learning classes offered through Columbia College.
  2. Creation of a case study based upon the needs of divergent learners.
  3. Creation of lessons plans and units designed to meet the instructional needs of divergent learners.
  4. Creation of authentic alternative assessments used to target divergent learners.

Level of performance required to determine satisfactory progress/goal accomplishment:

  1. Complete the Divergent Learning program through Columbia College.
  2. Create a reflective journal covering the implementation of the Divergent Learning program.
  3. Observation notes reflecting the implementation of meeting the needs of divergent learners.
