Soprano Ann Benson to Perform "American Cocktail"

 

(COLUMBIA, SC) Soprano Ann Benson will perform "An American Cocktail with a Twist" at Columbia College on Monday, August 30, 7:30 p.m., in the Concert Hall of Spears Music/Art Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

Benson will be joined by Matthew Jones on percussion and students Ashunti Drummond, Amelia Rollings, and Erin Wash, sopranos. 

Numbers will include "Days and Nights" by Lori Laitman, "Cantata" by John Carter," "Time to the Old" by William Schuman, "Trois Femmes" by Gregory Boatwright, "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" from Company by Stephen Sondheim, "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler, "America" fromWest Side Story by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, and "What a Movie" from Trouble in Tahiti by Leonard Bernstein.

A graduate of Columbia College who now teaches voice as a member of the College's faculty, Benson holds a master of music from Indiana University and a doctor of musical arts from the University of S.C. She has performed with the New York City Opera, the Connecticut Opera, the Syracuse Symphony, the Des Moines Metro Opera, and many others.
