(COLUMBIA, SC) The department of communication and theatre will present an original performance piece entitled "genHERations" on Thursday and Friday, October 28 and 29, 7:30 p.m., in Cottingham Theatre.
This special performance in celebration of the College's sesquicentennial is open to the public. Admission is $10 for general audiences and $5 for students and seniors (65+).
"genHERations" is a multi-media theatre piece about women through the past 150 years. The performance connects the lives of three generations of women in one family to the events and issues affecting women in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Through visual images, dance, movement, music and words, the audience is taken on a sometimes light-hearted, occasionally poignant journey between the past and the present, with characters such as the Columbia College doll collection, feminist cheerleaders, Erma Bombeck, Ellen Degeneres, and Sojourner Truth.
"genHERations" is written and directed by guest artist Dr. Mindy Fenske of the University of South Carolina, working with a number of Columbia College students as writers, photographers and assistants. The movement is choreographed by guest artist Lindsay Green, a member of The Power Company.
The box office will be open October 27-29 from 2 until 5 p.m. Call 786-3850 for reservations. Contact Sara Nalley, 786-3682 or snalley@colacoll.edu, for more information.
