(COLUMBIA, SC) The Department of Modern Languages and Department of Music will present acclaimed Spanish guitarist Francesc de Paula Soler, known as "the poet of the guitar," in a special performance on Thursday, October 7, 7:30 p.m., in the Concert Hall of the Spears Music/Art Center.
The event is open to the public. Admission is $5 per person.
In the first half of the concert, Soler will give the audience a panoramic view of the presence of the classical guitar in Spain and throughout Latin America. In the second half, he will showcase pieces by some of the most representative composers of contemporary music for the guitar.
Born into a well-known Spanish artistic family, Soler was, for many years, the Master Guitarist at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Barcelona. He has performed internationally and has been hailed as the most notable name in the new generation of Spanish guitarists.
