Serena Hill, Brittnee Siemon in Concert Oct. 11

 

(COLUMBIA, SC) The department of music will present a concert by guest artists Serena Hill, soprano, and Brittnee Siemon, mezzo, accompanied by Jun Matsuo on piano, on Monday, October 11, 7:30 p.m., in the Concert Hall of Spears Music/Art Center.

Hill and Siemon will perform pieces written either by or about women, including compositions by Libby Larsen, Shirley Bustos, Amy Beach, Benjamin Britten, and Jake Heggie. The concert is free and open to the public.

Hill holds a master of music degree from the University of South Carolina and an undergraduate degree from the University of North Alabama. She is a 2004 Palmetto Opera Competition Winner and was a finalist in the 2004 Florida Suncoast Opera Guild Competition. She was also the 2003 winner of the USC Young Artist Concerto Aria Competition, a 2003 finalist in the Southeast Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions, and a 2003 finalist in the Orpheus National Young Artist Vocal Competition.

Siemon is a graduate of Ohio University in voice performance and music therapy, with a master's degree in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory. She is currently a doctoral student in music at the University of South Carolina. Her recent operatic roles include the creation of Riina in the American premiere of Rautavaara's House of the Sun and Lady with the Hat Box in Argento's Postcard from Morocco with the "Opera in the Ozarks" Music Festival.
