Erica Wilson-Perkins to Perform at Columbia College

 

(COLUMBIA, SC) Dancer/choreographer Erica Wilson-Perkins, currently artist in residence at Columbia College-Chicago, will serve as a visiting artist at Columbia College during the week of October 4.

Wilson-Perkins will teach classes and choreograph pieces with The Power Company and The Columbia College Dance Company. She will conclude her visit with a performance on Friday, October 8, 1 p.m., in Room 205 of the Godbold Center. The performance will include a solo work as well as the company pieces choreographed during her visit. The event is free and open to the public.

A 1992 Columbia College graduate, Wilson-Perkins holds an MFA degree in dance from Florida State University. Prior to joining Columbia College-Chicago, she served as a member of the dance faculty at the University of Illinois and as the King, Chavez, Parks Artist in Residence at Wayne State University. She directed dance companies at both universities and has had works performed at the American College Dance Festival as well as by professional companies across the country.

A recipient of the 2003-2004 Chicago Dance Forum's Award, supporting the research and development of new works by local artists, she has been working for the past three years with a series of dances called the "Fight Water Series," which involves seven dance companies. Sometimes referred to as a "dancer-athlete," she is certified in the Pilates Method and received extensive early training as an elite-level gymnast.
