The Columbia College Department of Mathematics and Computing will sponsor Math Day for Girls on Saturday, October 15, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., in Breed Leadership Center. The event is open to female students in grades 7 through 12. Mathematics teachers are encouraged to accompany their students, as a teacher workshop ("Programming in Alice's Wonderland") will also be offered.
Events for students will include written competitions; Math Jeopardy team competitions; an Egg Drop contest; workshops on subjects such as "MathMagic," "Waiting to Exhale," and "How to Build Straw Bridges"; and math and computer-related films.
The registration fee of $6 covers lunch and refreshment breaks.
