(COLUMBIA, SC) The Columbia College Department of Communication and Theatre will present "Shorts," an evening of five short theatre pieces, March 1-4, 7:30 p.m., in Griffin Arena Theatre.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students and seniors (65 and over). The box office will open February 28 - March 3, 2-5 p.m. & 6:30 - 7:30 pm Call 786-3850 for reservations.
"Shorts" includes works by American playwrights Wendy Wasserstein, Christopher Durgan, and Laura Shaine Cunningham. About ten minutes in length each, the plays introduce the audience to women dealing with life in a variety of often-hilarious, sometimes poignant, ways -- from a customer struggling through renewing her drivers license at the DMV...to an elderly woman, bored with life in the retirement home, who runs away to find adventure.
The plays will be directed by guest director Indira Cureton-Cummings. Student performers include Mitra Arthur of Upper Marlboro, Md.; Shavone Gadsden of Charleston; LaShonda Hill of Goose Creek; Laura Johnson of Lexington; Stacy King of Houston, Del.; Angel McCrea of Cayce; Jennifer Pineau of Fayetteville, N.C.; Trish Fancher and Amelia Rollings of Columbia; Lauren Sykes of St. Augustine, Fla.; Portia Vaughan of Beaufort; and Stephanie Wilkie of Bonneau.
Wayne Bradley, lecturer and technology consultant with the department of communication and theatre, will serve as technical director. Jessica Merten, a first-year student from St. Cloud, Wis., will be stage manager.
