Staley Lecturer to Speak April 6

Barbara Bush(COLUMBIA, SC) Dr. Kandy Queen-Sutherland, an ordained Southern Baptist minister who currrently teaches Hebrew scripture at Stetson University in Deland, Florida, will serve as Columbia College's 2005 Staley Distinguished Lecturer on Wednesday, April 6, 1 p.m., in College Place United Methodist Church. Her topic is "Sticks, Stones, and Broken Bones: Words Are What Harm Me."

The event is free and open to the public.

Queen-Sutherland, who grew up in Lancaster, S.C., is a graduate of Winthrop University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she earned the Ph.D. She has served in churches in Kentucky and Indiana and taught for eight years at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland. She joined Stetson University in 1991. An editor of the Smyth & Helwys Bible Commentary, she is also authoring editions on Ruth, Lamentations, Esther, and Song of Solomon.
