The Columbia College Dance Department presents the Fall Dance Faculty Concert, “Divas, Dive, Dogs, and the Divine – Dances on Random Themes” to be held on November 17 & 18, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Cottingham Theatre on the Columbia College campus.  A selection of seven dances choreographed by Columbia College dance faculty and one guest artist will be featured in the concert.

“Scramble Dogs,” choreographed by Professor Martha Brim opens the show, and is a raucous tribute to dogs and their entertaining behaviors.  It is set to the playful tune “Motorcycle” by Black Dice.  Brim also choreographed “Dive”, a solo performed by Anna Dragoni Logan, set to the passionate aria from Puccini’s Tosca, “Vissi d’arte”.

Professor Patty Graham has choreographed “Secret Chambers of the Heart”, a moving testament of faith based on the themes of trust, relationships, patience and change.

“Resist,” choreographed by dance department chair Wrenn Cook, explores the many meanings and connotations inherent in the word “resist” through visual metaphor and visceral kinesthetic responses.

Guest artist, Mikail Ronnikov’sToo Cool for School” is a comedic tale of the various personalities appearing in a ballet class. Ronnikov will also perform in this work.

The ballet “Pas de Quatre,” as restaged by Anna Dragoni Logan, will also be performed. The original Pas de Quatre was created and choreographed by Jules Perrot in1845.  The original piece is a landmark in ballet history, marking the end of the Romantic Period, and was performed by the top ballerinas of the period.

Finally, “Do you Music take this Movement?  A Perfect Marriage” choreographed by visiting assistant professor Ginny Skinner Haynes will close the show.  With music by Fela Kuti, the dance becomes a rhythmic playground and visually kinetic tapestry.
