Columbia College Recognized

for Enhancing Columbia Environment

Columbia College has received the Neighborhood/Community Award for the 2006 Columbia Choice Awards. The awards are sponsored by the Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission and Columbia Green. This program recognizes individuals, neighborhoods, and firms whose work has significantly enhanced the Columbia environment, both in design and in overall quality of life.

The award was presented May 30 at an awards reception hosted by Columbia Green and the Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission. John Randall (Randy) Epting, grounds supervisor, and John Jones, vice president of finance, accepted the award for Columbia College.

A lot of hard work and devotion go into maintaining our beautiful campus. Year round, it truly reflects the love and pride our employees, students, and alumnae have for Columbia College and the city, said President Caroline Whitson. Last year, Columbia College received a Columbia Choice Award for Site Beautification Management, and the campus was described by the judges as a horticultural oasis in an urban setting.

Columbia College is a private liberal arts women's college with a legacy of developing women leaders with the courage, commitment, competence and conviction to build a better world. In addition to the Womens College, coeducational Evening College and Graduate School programs are also offered. Columbia College has been ranked for 11 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top comprehensive undergraduate colleges in the South. The College is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Enrollment is 1500 students from 23 states and 20 countries.
