Mezzo–Soprano Ann Benson will appear in recital with pianist Charles Fugo on Monday, October 15 at 7:30 in the Concert Hall on in Spears Music /Art Center at Columbia College.
The program features works by Purcell, Debussy, Richard Strauss, Mascagni and Adam Guettel. This is the first time that Benson and Fugo have appeared in concert since their 1989 concert in Weill Recital Hall at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. A native of South Carolina, Ann Benson is a graduate of Columbia College, where she currently serves as a assistant professor of music and was voted as the college’s 2005 Students’ Choice Award recipient for excellence in teaching. Benson holds a master's degree from Indiana University and a doctorate in musical arts from the University of South Carolina.
Charles Fugo is currently professor of music at the University of South Carolina, where he teaches piano and coaches chamber music. He received his baccalaureate degree at Oberlin Conservatory, with additional study at the Akademie des Mozarteums, Salzburg, Austria, and his master’s degree and doctorate at Indiana University, where he was also awarded the Performer’s Certificate. |
