Brim to Receive South Carolina Dance Association Award

Martha Brim will receive a 2007-08 South Carolina Dance Association President's Award for her "continued effort in making modern dance a viable art form in South Carolina." The award letter also cites her "recent work with reconstructing past work from Dan Wagoner" that was "beneficial to students of various ages as well as having historic significance." In addition, SCDA acknowledged her contributions through The Power Company to "provide an outlet for serious dancers in the area to engage in performing opportunities." The award will be presented to Brim on Saturday, November 10, at the annual SC Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance convention at Myrtle Beach.

Martha Brim is a professor of dance at Columbia College and artistic director of The Power Company. She has presented her work throughout the Southeast, at such venues as the Piccolo Spoleto Dance at Noon Series, the Atlanta Fringe Festival, South Carolina Dance Association festivals, as well as many cultural and educational venues throughout the South. In recognition of superior artistic merit, Brim received the 2001 South Carolina Arts Commission Choreographic Fellowship.
