Shorts 2008 is an evening of five brief plays, all of them selected from submissions to the annual National Ten-Minute Play Contest sponsored by the Actors Theatre of Louisville. The plays present variations on contemporary women dealing with life in highly unique, often hilariously funny ways. Audiences will meet a Disney World fairy hiding a secret about happily-ever-after, a woman having a near-death experience, and a professional organizer dealing with a wardrobe emergency, among others.
Shorts 2008 is directed by guest director Indira Cureton-Cummings, with Patrick Faulds of the Department of Communication and Theatre as technical director and Keshia Moyd, a senior from Columbia, SC, as stage manager.
Performing in Shorts 2008 are Columbia College students LaKita Ashford, a junior from Columbia, SC; Jessica Blackwell, a sophomore from Columbia, SC; Amanda Bowers, a senior from Goose Creek, SC; Jessa Dance, a senior from Columbia, SC: Chelsea Daniels, a junior from Marion, SC; Charity Gilbert, a first-year student from West Columbia, SC; Laura Kelly, a junior from County Derry, Northern Ireland; Keshia Moyd, a senior from Columbia, SC; Shaurnetta Russell, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica; Sabrina Sabau, a sophomore from Columbia, SC; Melanie Smalls, a first-year student from Columbia, SC; Morgan Smalls, a sophomore from Moncks Corner, SC; and Emily Watts, a senior from Columbia, SC.
