Goodall Gallery, Columbia College
January 7–February 7, 2009
Reception: January 23, 5:30 – 7 p.m.
The Goodall Gallery at Columbia College will present its third Annual South Carolina Art Teachers Invitational Exhibition. The group exhibition features ten South Carolina art educators covering a wide variety of media and content. The exhibit opens January 7 and continues through February 7, 2009, with an artists’ reception on Friday, January 23, from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
The annual exhibition highlights art educators who actively pursue their own artistic endeavors and showcases their efforts. The artists this year include: Kay Casey, Ridgeview High School; Mary Conner, AC Flora High School; Tom and Ronnie Dimig, Brockman Elementary School and Montessori School of Columbia; Glenda Guion, Fine Arts Center of Greenville County; Kit Loney, Fort Johnson Middle School; Mary Catherine Newman, Richland Northeast High School; Marguerite Palmer, Dutch Fork High School; David Vandiver, Dreher High School and Paul Yanko, SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. A wide variety of media will be shown including sculpture, mixed media, drawing and painting.
Within every art teacher there is an artist. While working hard as educators, these individuals also remain practicing artists outside the classroom. They draw inspiration the same ways any artist might in moments of creativity to inspire their own artwork as well as their teaching methods. South Carolina boasts a wide range of public and private art programs that foster a variety of training for young artists from every age level and background. As young people rise through their artistic education and become professional artists, there is usually an art teacher responsible for their development. This exhibition is an opportunity to view art educators as their artistic self while appreciating their role as teacher.
The Columbia College Goodall Gallery is located in the Spears Music and Art Center in downtown Columbia on North Main Street, 1301 Columbia College Drive. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For further information about exhibits please contact Jackie Adams at (803) 786-3088.
