Communication Students Shine!
Beachum Wins Top Award;
Mixon and Ray to Present Papers

One of the things that makes Columbia College's Communication program distinct is its strong emphasis on original undergraduate scholarship. Three Communication students have been selected to present their research at the Theodore Clevenger Undergraduate Honors Conference held in conjunction with the Southern States Communication Association's annual convention.

·        Lateshia Beachum will present her paper, "The Boondocks, 'The N***a Moment,' and the Limits of Satire." Additionally, her paper was selected as the Top Undergraduate Honors Conference Paper out of hundreds of submissions and will be honored with the Franklin Shirley Award. The Conference will be held this April in Norfolk, VA.  Lateshia is a senior from Columbia majoring in English-Business and Professional Writing with a minor in Commuication.

·        Anita Mixon will present her work, "Fantasy Impersonating Realty or Reality Impersonating Fantasy? Critical Study of Indian Film." Anita is a senior in the Evening Program from Columbia majoring in Communication.

·        Coley Ray will present her study, "Knitting Gender through Talk and the Internet: An Ethnography of Stitch 'n Bitch." Coley is a senior from Ridgeway majoring in Communication.
Congratulations!
