Columbia College senior Homa Hassan has been chosen as The National Collegiate Honors Student of the Year. The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) award comes with a cash prize and special medallion, conferred at the annual national convention held in Washington, D.C.
NCHC selects one student nationwide each year for this prestigious award. The nomination process is highly selective, and nominees represent the best and brightest students from honors programs and colleges across the United States. Each nominee is an exemplar of academic excellence; service to her or his institution and community; and leadership within local, regional, and national honors circles.
In addition to her academic schedule and leadership activities, Hassan is the chair of the college’s Honors Student Association and president of the Student Government Association (SGA). Hassan, a Columbia resident, is double majoring in Public Affairs and Political Science. A regular presenter at both Southern Regional and National Collegiate Honors Council conferences, Hassan has earned an impressive reputation in among her peers at the College and among faculty and honors program administrators nationwide.
