The Humanities Council SC will convene a statewide conference on October 15 at the Breed Leadership Center on the Columbia College campus.
Higher education professionals from 39 two- and four-year colleges and universities in South Carolina will gather with the purpose of assessing the state of the humanities in South Carolina. This is the first time such a conference has taken place. Dr. John Zubizarreta, professor of English and Director of the Honors Program at Columbia College, is a featured presenter.
Issues addressed include promotion of humanities research, partnerships for programming, funding, networking opportunities, digitalization, recruitment for majors and public programs. The Council is in its 36th year as the state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It awards more than $250,000 annually in grant monies throughout the state, sponsors the annual SC Book Festival and South Carolina Humanities Festival, and supports public programs in the humanities.
