Wise Wins SC Educational Technology Scholarship

Regina Wise from Columbia College was awarded a South Carolina Association for Educational Technology (SCAET) Scholarship at the annual SC Educational Technology Conference (SC EdTech 2009) held in Myrtle Beach, October 14-16, 2009.

Regina Wise is a senior at Columbia College in Columbia, SC.  She is an elementary education major graduating in May 2010. She is an active member of Kappa Delta Epsilon, the educational honor fraternity, where she serves as evening college representative.  She also maintains a GPA qualifying her for the Dean’s list.  Upon graduating, she plans to teach in either Columbia or one of the rural districts where she can share her enthusiasm for learning and her love for technology with her students. In addition to her educational responsibilities, Regina is also wife and  mother of four children:  Aaron (8 years), Talia (6 years), Joria (4 years), and Tristan (19 months).

“Regina was one of two South Carolina students to receive awards, and each epitomizes the future of South Carolina educators. They both are making large sacrifices to pursue their dreams of becoming teachers and SCAET is very pleased to honor them,” said SCAET chairman, Don Cantrell.

SCAET recognizes that students in teacher education programs are vital for the future of education in South Carolina, and that many potential teachers have difficulty affording to attend college.  SCAET created a scholarship program to honor students admitted into South Carolina teacher education programs. The criteria for the scholarship requires a candidate to be a student in good standing, have financial need and must address how they will use technology in their future classrooms.
