Lambda Pi Eta inducted six new members

 

On October 27, 2010 Lambda Pi Eta inducted six new inductees. Our 2010 inductees include Yolina Elenkova, Jacqueline Jones, Chantel Lucas, Jennifer Lucas, Diana Lynde, and Amanda Steele.

Lambda Pi Eta was founded at the University of Arkansas in 1985. The National Communication Association established LPH as an affiliate organization and as the official national Communication honor society for undergraduates in 1995. In February 1996, Lambda Pi Eta was inducted in the Association of College Honor Societies. Columbia College's Chapter, the Sigma Gamma Chapter, was established in 2004 and has since inducted 41 members. In 2007, our Sigma Gamma Chapter was named National Chapter of the Year.

The mission of the organization is to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in Communication Studies; stimulate interest in the field of Communication; promote and encourage professional development among Communication majors; provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of Communication; establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students; and explore options for graduate education in Communication Studies. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed 60 semester hours in undergraduate courses, having a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, and have completed at least 12 semester hours in Communication with at least a 3.5 GPA in those classes.

Dr. Brad Mello, Associate Director for Education Initiatives with the National Communication Association, stated in a letter to the new inductees "Today you join an honor society of over 450 chapters nationwide with thousand of individual members. The faculty in the Communication Program at Columbia College has worked hard to maintain an impressive level of excellence by offering high quality, challenging course work, as well as providing this opportunity for your outstanding scholarly achievements to be officially recognized."
