New Music: Weinberg to Premier in Germany

Dr. Alan Weinberg, professor of music, has composed a new work for Baroque and Blue titled “Americana.” With generous support by the U.S. Consulate in Leipzig, Germany, Weinberg will attend the premiere of his work on July 17 at Schloss Neschwitz, Lausitzer Musiksommer and July 18 at Schloss Colditz.

Weinberg says of the new work, “The main idea is that it reflects an essentially American melting pot of styles—anything from salsa to Appalachian folk music, or bolero to bluegrass to popular music. I think that’s what I would be aiming for in my new piece(s). And I think that coming to Germany would help carry on the important work of promoting international understanding and peace."

An active recitalist and composer, Weinberg’s works include “Celebration Fanfare” for wind ensemble, and compositions for dance. His “Salsa Suite” for flute and piano has been performed in international festivals in Peru, New Zealand, and Germany and is published by ALRY Publications.
