Presidential Search Committee Update
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
On Monday, February 13, the Presidential Search Committee met to review and discuss those applicants which meet the expected criteria for the 18th President of Columbia College. The meeting followed many hours of independent analysis by Committee members who were very diligent in their review of all materials submitted. Each candidate was given thoughtful consideration.
During the next week, the Committee will contact references on the selected applicants in preparation for a Committee telephone conference on February 23. At that time, the Committee will select candidates for confidential interviews to be conducted in March. The Committee is currently on target for all proposed deadlines in selecting and naming Dr. Caroline Whitson’s successor. We appreciate your continued interest and appreciation for the confidential nature of the process.

On January 20, the Columbia College Presidential Search Committee met to continue its efforts to find the 18th President of Columbia College. During this meeting, the Committee was briefed on the procedures to be followed in the review of potential candidate applications. Since we did not post the Profile and ad until early December, applications continue to arrive for our consideration.
If you are aware of potential candidates, please send your nominations to me or any Committee members. In addition to the Search Committee members listed below, candidates may be referred directly to our AGB Search consultants, Dr. Jim Davis (jdavis@agbsearch.com) and Dr. Tobie van der Vorm (ptv@agbsearch.com). We want to ensure that we have a broad spectrum of applicants who are interested in our Columbia College and wish to play a part in her continued successes into the future.
Although our goal is to have the next president selected by the end of March, we are also realistic that our timelines may have to be extended. The Committee is devoted to take all the necessary time to find the BEST person to follow Dr. Whitson upon her retirement.
We appreciate your continued support in the months ahead and thank you for your understanding of why the process must remain confidential. Should you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact us. We’ll be happy to share any information that is not privileged or confidential to the process.

The Presidential Search Committee met today to begin the process of identifying the 18th President of Columbia College. The criteria for the position will be advertised in mid December; applicants will be screened in February 2012; and confidential interviews of the candidates will commence in early March. The Committee plans to submit its recommendation to the Board of Trustees in late March or early April. The Board of Trustees will announce the new president once contractual terms are finalized.
Pertinent information relative to the search firm, AGB Search; contact information for Committee members, as well as the presidential profile, will be available for review on the Columbia College website. The Search Committee welcomes any nominations for the Presidency and will adhere to strict ethical guidelines to protect the confidential nature of the process. While your support and interest are critical components of the search, the Committee appreciates your understanding of the confidential nature under which the Committee must proceed.
The College’s search consultants enjoyed their two-day visit to the campus and appreciate the information received from the many constituents of the College. This is an exciting time in the life of Columbia College and the Search Committee is committed to finding the best person to succeed Dr. Caroline Whitson who has done an exceptional job during the past eleven (11) years.
