The Power Company

The Power Company is a professional dance company in residence at Columbia College, directed by Martha Brim, professor of dance and Christian von Howard, former artist in residence.

The Company includes Brim and Columbia College students Kara Conder, Sarah Jansen, Rebecca Lee, Brandi McGowan, Emily Moore, Alexis Sams, and Lindsay Green.

Created to perform works by some of contemporary dance's most cutting edge choreographers, The Power Company staged its premier performance on May 31, 2000 at Piccolo Spoleto's Dance at Noon series in Charleston, South Carolina. Since then, the Company has made appearances on cultural series throughout South Carolina and has performed for public schools throughout the state. The Power Company also has developed Power Tools, educational experiences including dance repertory workshops and other classes, that are offered to communities across South Carolina.

The Power Company is supported in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Company believes power can be found in art, dancing, and the spirit of each individual. The group's name and slogan, "The Power Company -- moving people," embraces the idea of power for all people.

You are invited to join The Power Company in tapping the most precious source of power -- energy and light for mind and spirit of all people. Plug into The Power Company!

"The Power Company is an enormous asset to the community. Their work is fresh, innovative, sensitive, witty, and intelligent. The dancers are unusually talented and exude an infectious joy and passion that is carried from their fingertips to their toes to their facial expressions. The performance was enriching on many different levels, and proved that modern dance isn't just for dance fans anymore - it is for everyone."
