Named for Dr. J. M. Ariail and Dean David D. Peele, both beloved professors at Columbia College. The building was completed in 1956 with funds given by the Columbia community. Dr. Ariail joined the faculty in 1912 and served as professor of English and chair of the English department until his retirement in 1968. Dr. Ariail wrote Columbia College Alma Mater in 1917.
